The beauty of your curtains and drapes lies in their headings. From goblet pleats to pierced headings, each style conveys a different mood and speaks volumes about your design sense. Your drapery header style gives a distinct look to the window treatments and makes them stand out from the rest.

Drapery headings act as the focal point of your draperies and display how much you pay attention to the details. There are a variety of styles available in the window covering industry. Some are famous while others are underrated.

Today’s post is dedicated to the top styles of drapery headings that can change the look of your drapes completely.

Traditional Pinch Pleat

This traditional drapery heading never goes out of style. In this style, the drapery fabric is accented delicately into three folds. The folds are pinched together (a few inches below the top of the drape) to create tight, uniform pleats at equal intervals that fan out on the top and bottom. It gives a neat and clean appearance to the drapes and creates an organised look. To give a fuller look to the drapes, place the pleats closer. A well-matched valance works well with traditional pinch pleated drapes.

Goblet Pleats

Goblet pleat is one of the most attractive finishes. It gives a decorative look to your window coverings. The pleats look like a goblet, hence the name. For sewing this style, a cone of fabric is caught with a stitch about 4 inches below the top of the drape (or at the desired length) to create pleats. These goblet-shaped pleats can be filled with tissue to keep the shape intact or left empty. Add multiple goblets to add volume to this treatment.

Back-Tab Ripple Fold

Back-tab ripple fold style creates a modern and sophisticated look. This heading makes the draperies appear to levitate. Famous for its gorgeous folds, this treatment provides a smooth flow to the drapery fabric. In this style, the fabric is sewn onto a clear plastic band to create symmetrical pleats that give a uniform look to your windows. This treatment works well for tall windows.

Tab Top

Tab top drapery heading is a popular element of country-style interiors. This treatment is perfect for stationary drapes as they provide a minimalistic look to your windows. In this cool and casual style, the top of the drapes is attached to a row of fabric loops (tabs) stitched at regular intervals. These loops are hung to the curtain rod to give a relaxed and informal look to the curtains or drapes. The ideal tab measures 2 inches wide and 4 inches long included in the curtain length.

Pierced Heading

Pierced heading or grommet drapery header is a simple and popular style. This treatment allows you to adjust the width of the curtain or drape with the help of plastic grommets attached on the top of the drapery fabric. These grommets slide through the drapery rod effortlessly and allow you to open and close the drapes smoothly.

Box Pleat

Box pleats are famous for their formal and streamlined look. In this beautifully tailored treatment, the fabric is folded into pleats on the front and back. The creases face opposite directions and form a raised section in between. After stitching, it gives a box-like appearance and adds fullness to the fabric. It’s an easy-to-sew treatment that works well with a formal décor.

Each type of drapery heading style is unique in its own way. It adds to the beauty of your window covering and displays your sense of style. Bring one or all of them to your décor and treat your windows with elegance.
